Chaperone Policy

We are committed to providing a safe comfortable environment where patients and staff can be confident that best practice is being followed at all times.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. Wherever possible we would ask that you make this request at the time of booking so arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way

When the doctor needs to carry out an intimate examination, they will suggest that a chaperone is present. The chaperone will be a practice nurse or health care assistant, but if neither is available, a non-clinical member of staff will be asked. All staff understand the role of the chaperone and the doctor will explain the procedure to you. You have the right to refuse a chaperone if you so wish.
